At Relative Motion, we bridge the gap between a dancer going through the motions of training versus deeply understanding their body in motion to maximize their training. To do this, we focus on these three disconnects below.
3 MAJOR TEACHING - LEARNING DISCONNECTS
This disconnect occurs between a teacher and student because of the more advanced understanding of the anatomy a teacher comes into the studio with, one that the teacher has learned and developed through time and experience. This knowledge allows teachers to guide dancers to a higher level of training safely, yet as a teacher shares in-depth information and amazing insights, the difference in maturity level between the teacher and student becomes a major separator in students learning and engaging these concepts fully.
This disconnect occurs when a dancer DOES understand logically what the teacher is explaining, but is not yet able to translate it into their body. Their mind is on track with the information, and sometimes the dancer evens THINKS they are doing it, but yet it's not reading in their placement or movement quality. This disconnect occurs often for visual learners, who can understand the technique, but need to truly see it on themselves to know if they are doing it right.
This disconnect occurs when a dancer hears their teacher explain the break down of technique so often that they tune it out. Often a dancer may hear an explanation, or several different explanations, of how to achieve a goal, and yet not take it into account or progress towards corrections. Maybe they hear it from another source and immediately correct it or accomplish it, despite having heard it several times before.
